CWA COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

1 Mins read

Today CWA celebrates International Women’s Day running under the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. CWA is working with women in rural communities in achieving gender equality in the context of climate change, and environmental and disaster risk reduction, which are some of the greatest global challenges of the twenty-first century.

Community Water Alliance strongly believe that without gender equality today, a sustainable future, and an equal future, remains beyond everyone’s reach. CWA is empowering women farmers who are making huge progress in advancing agribusiness in communal lands in order to improve their livelihoods.

Due to varying and changing climatic patterns, women remain more vulnerable to climate change impacts than men, as they constitute the majority of the world’s poor and are more dependent on the natural resources which climate change threatens the most.

Women and girls are effective and powerful leaders and change-makers for climate adaptation and mitigation if they are given the opportunity to lead and actively participate in sustainability initiatives and decision-making processes.

CWA encourages women and girls to have a voice and be equal players in decision-making related to climate change for sustainable development within their communities.
