Community Water Alliance in partnership with Oxfam donated PPE to 13 Community Health Clubs at Mai Musodzi Hall in Mbare today.

Community Health Clubs have been playing an instrumental role in addressing waste, clearing illegal dump sites doted around Mbare. Mbare is an economic hub for Harare and is characterized with high human traffic which results in high volumes of waste being generated within markets, households as well as the business sector.

The donation is meant to provide support for health clubs who have been dealing with waste without PPE exposing their lives to contracting diseases like cholera and typhoid.

Mbare is a cholera hotspot and there is need to ensure personal hygiene, home hygiene and environmental hygiene is maintained and promoted. The Community Health Clubs were established to support government initiative on disease surveillance at community level.

The items donated include wheel barrows, hard brooms, rubber brooms, shovels and personal protective equipment (PPE).

CWA is advocating for the adoption of green solutions in solid waste management which include the reduce, recycle and reuse concept as opposed to the collect, transport and throw away concept currently used by local authorities.
